penning the port

Shown here are my sketches of Barcelona's port, specifically of the site of this semesters project. The three categories I'd explain my focus so far with are: access, scale, and setting. Enjoy the acronym.
A ccess:
The site is viewed in a touristic manner via boat (cruise ship or other), helicopter, or from above on a cable car to Montjuic. Commercial and transport access occurs in the waterways of the port and also on the connecting routes for vehicles to get to the loading docks. A train path is perpendicular to the Moll 22 Contradic (left extension). As our entire studio with Texas A&M experienced, the site is also reachable by walking, biking, and of course, driving.
S cale:
The natural size of Montjuic and the Mediterranean contrasted to the man made port and city is the first contrast in scale to observe. Within man made structures, greater contrasts exist: between sailboats and cruise liners, enormous cranes and smaller equipment, huge ships and small shipping containers.
S etting:
Considering the (many) neighbors will be particularly important as this project continues. The site is shadowed by the architectural bridge at the porta d' europa. Massive storage structures - in rectangular or cylindrical shapes - dominate parts of the port. The site is also situated in a place where many -tourists, locals, workers, bicyclers, etc... see or visit. As such, the project will have to forge its identity as a water-gateway to Barcelona and function as a piece of the puzzle that is the living, breathing, sweating city of Barcelona.
